Niagara, Hamilton & Kitchener (NHK) Woodcarvers Roundup

The 2012 NHK Roundup will be held on Saturday, May the 6th at the Copetown Community Hall and will feature over 15 instructors.
Due to the increasing interest in the roundup, they are encouraging carvers to pre-register.

Flower City Seniors Show Info

The 5th annual show and competition at the Flower City Seniors Recreation Centre will be held on Saturday April 21st, 2012 and will feature wood carving, pyrography, hobbies, crafts and demos.
The Recreation Centre is located at 8870 McLaughlin Road in Brampton. Admission is free and there is plenty of parking. For more information, call 905-874-3500.

2012 Kawartha Carving Competition Info

Next year's Kawartha Carving Competition (co-hosted by the Buckhorn Carvers and Caygeon Carvers) will be held on Saturday, September 8th, 2012 in the Bobcaygeon Curling Club at the Fairgrounds (note that this is not the same date as the fall fair).

Prize Winners from the Ottawa Woodworking Show

From left to right we have: Armando Baisas' entry in the 'Relief Carving' category, Ben Benedict's entry for 'Animal in the Round', Bill Naylor's 'Song Bird' entry and Elaine Burnette's entry in the 'Bark Carving' category.
All of the carvers have won gift certificates from Nutmeg Woodworking and Armando Baisas has also won a Proxxon Reciprocating Power Carver courtesy of us here at Nutmeg Woodworking and Proxxon.

Youth Wins Flexcut Carving Set for his 1st Place Win

Here we have 10 year old Braden Sargeson of Niagara Falls receiving an award for the wonderful loon that he carved and entered into competition. Braden won both 1st-place and best of class ribbons for his entry at a carving show earlier this year.
The Flexcut 21-pc Deluxe Carving Set prize was co-sponsored by Nutmeg Woodworking and Flexcut.
Congratulations Braden and we look forward to seeing more of your great carvings!

Santa Claus Powertex Sculptures from Carol Main

Here we have a Santa Claus created by Carol Main of Forest, Ontario. She used transparent Powertex then added red paint to it to get the colour she wanted. And it turned out great!

Powertex Sculptures from RoxAnn Herechuk

Here we have two Powertex creations from RoxAnn Herechuk. The first row uses the Lead colour and the second row is using a combination of Terra Cotta and Lead.
We are very proud of the sculptures that RoxAnn is doing. It's great work and she's having a wonderful time making them. Click here to learn more about Powertex Fabric Hardener and other Powertex products.

Owl Carving & Wooden Chest from Axel & Michaela Green

Axel & Michaela Green sent in photos of their first piece of wood carving, a Horned Owl and also a wonderful wooden chest handmade and painted by Michaela. They used their new Flexcut Carving Set when they had a bit of time during a recent cottage trip.
Really great pieces by both of them.

This year's London Wood Show that was to be held February 11th to 13th has been cancelled.
The next woodshow will be the 23rd Annual Kitchener/Waterloo Woodworking Show that runs from March 11th to the 13th. Hope to see you all there!
Canada’s Capital Carving Competition Results

Rick Braden of Outaouais Wood Carvers Club kindly sent us a letter regarding the 23rd annual Carving Competition from this year's Ottawa Wood Show:
